Osaka, Japan

Just received a good size retail order from Osaka today - apparently natural candles from Topanga, CA can appeal to the Japanese audience (who knew?). Maybe a road trip to Japan is in order - big surf scene in Japan. Here are some useful phrases I'll have to learn if I ever get in the water there:

NAMI = WAVE
GUCHAGUCHA = CHOPPY WAVES
OBA HEAD = OVERHEAD
SUMEIMASEN = EXCUSE ME
DOZO = AFTER YOU
ASHITA DOCO-GA EE-NAMI? = WHERE IS IT GOING TO BE GOOD TOMORROW?

Fernwood Pacific - New Formula!

Back in June I received a request from a retailer for a more "fresh" fragrance. I knew I wanted to base the scent on basil essential oil, but coming up with the right combination of other oils was the hard part. After three months of experimentation, I finally had the right combination of fresh and woodsy I was looking for. Of course, it took too long for the person who originally made the request, but you can still benefit from the effort. Enjoy!

Farmers' Market: New Formula!

Since my most popular formula, "Elysium Field" is a sweet, floral fragrance, I decided to explore another direction within the same category. I was walking through a farmer's market in Santa Barbara back a few months ago, and the powerful fragrance of fresh cut tuberose hit me. I started experimenting on bringing this powerful floral together with other fragrances from the market, and after considerable experimentation (about 6 rounds), I found a most satisfying combination. I'm not one for overly "perfumy" fragrances, so even though this has a strong tuberose element, I think you'll agree it's a familiar, friendly and, frankly, happy fragrance!

Reformation

19Candles has partnered with Reformation in LA and NYC. Starting this month, a selection of candles will be available in both locations. Here's what they're all about:

"Reformation is an environmentally sustainable fashion brand that repurposes vintage and surplus materials to create a chic, limited edition collection. Our collection is made locally in our own New York and Los Angeles studios, and sold directly to our own stores at fair prices".

We think it's a great fit, so watch this space for more news and info. In the meantime, check out their website!
